Forwarder leases freighter to address capacity crunch

With air cargo capacity stretched to the limit, freight forwarders are investigating alternative options – and for logistics major GEODIS, that means bringing on its own dedicated freighter.

The company has just leased an A330-300 full freighter aircraft which will be deployed between Europe, the United States and Asia.

Operating between Amsterdam, London, Chicago and Hong Kong, the aircraft will also serve the China – Europe route for the peak season. The first flight will take off this month.

According to CEO Marie-Christine Lombard, with the continued strain on airfreight capacity, it’s the only option to ensure a more sustainable supply of air cargo space.
