Forwarder adds insurance to one-stop service

Importers and exporters want more from their freight companies than simply clearing and transporting their goods - they expect all their logistics requirements to be provided as a single service, says Hellmann Marine Division manager Johan Oelofse.

Hellmann has set up its own in-house brokerage as part of its SA operations. Oelofse says the response so far has been overwhelmingly positive.

By providing the service in-house we can give a better service than any broker as we deal directly with SA insurance companies, he says.

He says claims and queries will be processed faster than if the cargo owner had to go through a separate broker.

Documentation is processed quicker and this in turn speeds up obtaining letters of credit approvals from banks, who demand insurance liability. And because insurance premiums are included in one invoice, administrative costs are reduced.

The client can wrap up his logistical requirements under one roof instead of having to consult outside parties.

Hellmann offers a number of services to its clients on which it has built its reputation. This additional service will further improve Hellmann's standing in the freight community, he says.

The service is not restricted to marine only and extends to all specialised fields, for instance, engineering and related risks like breakdown, machinery and other corporate classes.

The service is offered at Hellmann offices around the country.
