Foreign drivers targeted

Organised crime remains the single biggest threat in the freight and logistics sector. According to Johan Robinson, operations manager of the Risk Management Solution (RMS) division at Combined Private Investigations (CPI), the ability of crime syndicates to infiltrate all aspects and levels of the cargo supply chain is mind boggling. “In particular, syndicates target the foreign drivers working for local transporters and logistics companies and through bribery, corruption and intimidation have become very successful in stealing cargo, and in some cases the trucks and trailers as well,” he told FTW. “They do this with the minimum use of force. It is a wellknown fact that most cargo hijackings are in fact really more“hand overs” than actual hijackings.”
