The Western Cape has the Far East in its sights, with China a priority focus for the year ahead. This is according to Tim Harris, CEO of Wesgro, the province’s official trade and investment promotion agency, who sees wine as a particularly lucrative option. According to Siobhan Thompson, Wines of South Africa (WoSA) CEO, wine export sales to China continue to achieve year-on-year growth with a total of 18.3 million litres exported to that country last year. “Of this export volume 9.1 million litres was in package format,” said Thompson. The strategy now was to focus on a high ratio of value growth to volume growth, she added.
