The Angela Arcella – an Italian fishing trawler – capsized at Laboratory Wharf in Malta yesterday (Wednesday) after colliding with the 9 422-deadweight tonne (DWT) cargo ship, Maria.
A mechanical failure on board the Maria reportedly caused the collision, with the crash affecting two more ships at the wharf.
The Maria hit the Congo-registered ship Union which in turn hit a tug boat, reports online maritime news site, Port Technology.org.
No damages were caused to Union or the tug boat and there were no casualties from the sinking of the Angela Arcella.
