FedEx adds retail outlets

New programme allows local service companies to sell express product FEDEX EXPRESS has launched a new programme which offers local companies the opportunity to become retail gateways into its global network. "The FedEx Authorised Ship Center programme allows service companies in industrial and commercial areas to act as service points for express packages," says marketing manager Sameer Wadhwa. "Increasing the number of outlets creates greater accessibility to express freight services for the convenience of business." Express is the fastest-growing segment of the freight industry worldwide and growth in Southern Africa outstrips the rest of the world. "More companies are engaging express freight companies to move urgent and important consignments regionally and around the world in preference to unreliable postal services," explains Wadhwa. The programme offers a source of revenue for entrepreneurs such as travel agents who have seen their traditional revenues eroded through the slashing of booking commissions. "In addition, we are negotiating with other companies offering complementary services such as printing and mailing," says Wadhwa. "FedEx absorbs the costs of point of sale material, signage and training. While generating incremental revenue, these companies learn new skills."
