International conference to be held in Cape Town DURBAN-BASED forwarder Famous Pacific Shipping moved into new premises on the city's Berea at the beginning of September while arranging details for its international annual general meeting to be held at Cape Town's Table Bay Hotel from October 5-8. "It's been a dramatic time for us, but it is a true milestone in our development in this country," says managing director Jacqui Etschmaier, who started the South African forwarding operation four years ago. "We were based initially in Rossburgh, but have made the move to a more central location because of the growth of the business." The Cape Town office was opened a year after commencement of services in Durban and a Gauteng office was opened in February, situated at Jet Park where Janine Cargin is branch manager. The international company was started in Hong Kong and Singapore. The South African group became the 11th member but this figure has now risen to 30 branches worldwide. A total of 79 delegates will attend the Cape Town conference with Ghana and Kenya the first countries outside of South Africa attending from the African continent. The theme of the conference will be ÔThere Are No Limits' with a live cheetah being held at the centre to symbolise the theme. "It is an animal that typifies tenacity, speed and shrewdness, acting quickly and decisively," says Etschmaier. "I feel this is the true example of how we operate here in Africa and that is the reason I chose it for this auspicious occasion."
