Angola remains one of biggest markets JOY ORLEK THE ADDITION of Maputo to its list of road freight destinations has paid dividends for crossborder operator Express Link Cargo (ELC). In the 18 months since the launch of the service the company has recorded steady growth on the route, which MD Malcolm Stewart attributes to scheduled daily departures as well as strong communications with customers. “Every vehicle is equipped with GPS tracking technology and staff at our Johannesburg head office constantly monitor the vehicles and relay real time tracking information to customers twice daily until the cargo is delivered.” The ELC fleet ranges from one-ton bakkies to 34- ton superlinks to cater for customers’ varied requirements. “The longhaul fleet is supported by a range of 4-and 8-tonners which are used to collect customers’ freight in and around Johannesburg,” says Stewart. Offices were opened recently in Komatipoort and Maputo to improve service levels at the border and in Maputo. The company also operates road freight services Zimbabwe, Malawi and Zambia. “Luanda Angola, which is served by sea and air, still remains one of our biggest markets in terms of volumes and shipments,” said Stewart. ELC, which offers the full spectrum of sea and airfreight solutions, is a member of the World Cargo Alliance and the Chinese Global Logistics Network which provide global muscle.
