2007 has seen groupage operator Express Cargo expand its services into Botswana, and now Mozambique. These were big steps for the Matsapha-based firm that was known to handle any type of shipment order, but exclusively to and from Swaziland. Overnight service to Lesotho is next. A warehouse is being sought in Maseru. Company managing director Mark S venningsen also has his sights set on service to Bloemfontein. This expansion of routes has been accompanied by an overhaul of the company truck fleet. “Express Cargo has now purchased air-suspension trailers for its fleet, for a softer ride. This has reduced breakages” said Svenningsen. The firm has invested in a new software programme – Live Trace and Track – which will start in November and will be available for customers in Swaziland, Mozambique, Lesotho and Botswana. The system offers POD imagery, and a customer can download a copy of the Proof of Delivery document off the company’s Internet site anywhere in the world. “This gives us an advantage in customer service. Shippers want reliable proof as soon as they can get it that the delivery has been made,” said Svenningsen.
