ARE EXPORTERS tired of hearing about exports, or is there something else they want placed before them when they gather at meetings?
The Johannesburg Chapter of the Exporters Club of South Africa is posing the question. At a committee meeting held last week members expressed dismay at the dwindling attendance of exporters at meetings.
The banks, the freight forwarders and the shipping lines are always there, but the export people are invisible, says chapter chairman Wendy Ruscoe.
The committee has put forward four possible reasons. The members in this category are too busy, or the meetings have gone off track and proved uninteresting to them. Perhaps the crime rate encourages export members to head home at 5 pm instead of to the meeting venue - or can it be that motivational talks instead of pure export details are what is wanted?
Whatever it is, we'd like to know and to get them back when we meet, says Ruscoe.
Any suggestions? Secretary Alex Raftopoulos is ready to list them for the committee. Phone her on (011) 803-8330 or fax (011) 803-8581.
