South African exports may have recovered from the global economic crisis, but the country is by no means out of the woods yet. This is according to Nicola Weimar, senior economist for Nedbank, who says that while volumes are up, the recovery rate following the recession in the country is still very slow. “The same can be said for the manufacturing industry where we are seeing an increase after it came to a near standstill last year. But we are calculating from such a low base that the increase in volume in exports and in manufacturing products we are seeing now is not much to be excited about.”
