Expansion of Mozambique’s Sena railway line is expected to be completed by the middle of this year, according to a government official.
Provincial director for transport and communications of the Sofala province, Hélcio Canda, was quoted by the Mozambican daily newspaper, Noticias, as saying that the expansion included upping the capacity of the 575-kilometre line from 6.5 million tonnes per annum to 20 million.
Canda added that the expansion project would also include improvement of railway bridges so that they could handle larger loads as well.
The Sena line links the port of Beira to the coal town of Moatize, between the provinces of Sofala and Tete.
