Eskom gives assurances over Medupi

Eskom hopes to see the Medupi coal-fired power station up and running by no later than the end of next year. According to Edward Funyufunyu, senior manager of logistics with Eskom, the ongoing delays at the power station, which is being built near Lephalale in the Limpopo province, have taken their toll but progress is being made. He said while the current state of infrastructure was a concern, Eskom had returned three power stations to service in recent times and had therefore added major capacity. The latest indications are that the station will be on stream at the end of the year, but synchronisation will take some time. It will in all probability only be adding capacity to the grid next year.
