EMIRATES SKYCARGO has removed its fuel surcharge on cargo with immediate effect, in line with other international airlines, following the fall of the fuel index to below 110 points. When fuel prices experienced a sharp increase in November 2000, the airline along with the majority of other international carriers, implemented a surcharge of US$10 cents per kilo. "Fuel prices had more than doubled at the time," says Emirates South African cargo manager Kum Naicker. Instead of raising rates at the time we opted for a surcharge which we believed was far fairer to the customer."
