JUST THREE months since the opening of its fully fledged service facility in Jet Park, US forwarding major Emery Worldwide is set for expansion.
That's the word from recently-appointed regional manager - Africa, Kerry Fielden, who expects to see the 24-strong staff complement in Johannesburg swell to 38 by the year end. Fielden will also be looking at developing business elsewhere on the continent.
Emery disinvested in 1986 and has since maintained a presence through agency representation.
The investment in South Africa is part of the company's initiative to further develop an operational infrastructure and strong presence in the emerging markets on the African continent, vice president - Europe, Middle East and Africa, Peter Brougham told FTW.
Ultimately it plans to open offices nation-wide, but this is not in the short-term strategy.
Fielden is delighted with the results achieved in the first few months and believes the extension of the company's portfolio to include customs brokerage and oceanfreight has attracted shippers who require a full service package.
