Logistics and warehousing operations in the East London IDZ will be able to keep some operations moving during Eskom power failures thanks to a combination of wind and solar power. In addition to a photovoltaic solar power system that went out to tender early in March, the IDZ will be developing its own wind farm, according to the Eastern Cape department of economic development, environmental affairs and tourism MEC Sakhumzi Somyo. Using components from companies in the IDZ and region, the wind farm will be able to generate more than three million kilowatt-hours per annum, Somyo told the Bhisho leslature in his policy speech. CAPTION Logistics companies in the IDZ include UTi, ZZZ, Bigfoot Express Freight and MSC Depots.
