Software company Easyclear is currently running several pilot projects to provide its freight industry clients with their electronic data interchange status (edi) status and tracking data via a web portal, which is enabled through a smart device. General manager of Easyclear, Mike Henning, told FTW that the company had also recently completed several bespoke projects using similar OTP (one-time-pin) technology and smart devices to which users have become accustomed as a result of the banking industry. “This has given us valuable insight into new technology that we will make use of for future developments,” added Henning He said that Sars modernisation had taken up a “good deal of time” in development to meet the trade and the customs body’s compliancy objectives. “While the changing landscape of the South African Revenue Service (Sars) is a consistent challenge, it also offers exciting business opportunities for smart entrepreneurial companies and we aim to take advantage of these,” he said. The company’s strategic objectives for the next year are to take its product to a truly web environment, similar to the banking environment, where clients can access their data on the go by using smart devices. Easyclear offers fully integrated modular systems which can be customised to any third party software on any platform and has offices in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Musina. “Our operations in KZN PROVIDE on-site support to our growing client base in and around this region and its neighbouring countries,” commented Henning.
