In an attempt to overcome the extremely short notice given to port users of the annual increase in port tariffs, the Ports Regulator is starting the whole tariff methodology process earlier this year, according to CEO Riad Khan. This, he told FTW, will be an early kick-off for discussions with the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) and its customers on how to calculate the various tariff increase applications. He hoped this would lead to the whole tariff methodology being worked out to everyone’s satisfaction by January next year, so that the previous short notice given to port users of the tariff increase application would be avoided. Khan also asked that readers be encouraged to register on the regulator’s data base so that any information being sent out on the process would be made available to them by e-mail.
