Eagle adds global muscle

THE DETAILS are out on Eagle Freight's management buy-out.

Management and leading German forwarder Thyssen Haniel Logistic have bought out the company which was hived off from the Malbak group last year as part of its unbundling process.

M.d. Bobby Pearson, Kevin Lee and Francois van der Merwe are shareholders in the business. Senior management are participants in a recently formed share trust.

Eagle has worked with Thyssen Haniel for the past eight years.

They will assist us in becoming internationally competitive by way of providing access to their technology, computerisations and by widening Eagle's geographical spread, Pearson told FTW.

Eagle employs 400 people in its offices in Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg and Port Elizabeth.

Thyssen Haniel has a staff of over 7 000 in its 248 offices around the world and an annual turnover in excess of R11-billion.
