Durban’s grand social shipping event scheduled for November

ALAN PEAT IN DURBAN the International Convention Centre (ICC) will be the venue for this year’s KZN maritime dinner scheduled for November 9 – an expected gathering of some 600-800 people for a black-tie dinner and auction with top class entertainment. Hosted again by the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS), the Master Mariners' Association (MMA), General Botha Old Boys' Association, the Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (Wista), and the Maritime Law Association (MLA), the function is sponsored by Bidfreight Port Operations – and this year’s nominated charity is the International Sailors Society. “The aim of this grand function is to unite the plethora of social events in shipping into one,” said ICS committee member Alison Sibbald of Millar Maritime. “Each company attending will be given an opportunity to display its company logo on the table and to contribute as much as possible to the charity pool via the auction that will be held during the dinner.” She expects that all Durban’s maritime related bodies will be in attendance – and also welcomes Johannesburg and Cape Town organisations and companies to the event.
