ALAN PEAT
IN THE biggest construction job ever undertaken by Transnet Projects, the R240-million contract for the concrete surfacing of D-G Berths in the Port of Durban has recently been completed. It’s a visibly impressive piece of construction, with some equally impressive figures in its demands for materials. Some 150 000-tonnes of G2 material was processed and laid; there was the construction of
60 000-cubic metres of concrete pavement; and the laying of
1 700-metres of stormwater pipes below the water table. Add to that the construction of 23 high-mast foundations and the laying of 17 000-t of asphalt.
