Durban slower to recover

While 2009 was a reasonably good year for logistics specialist Cargo Care Freight, despite the global economic meltdown, 2010 has started very slowly and the Transnet strike did not help the situation, says MD Roland Raath. But Raath is confident that business will pick up in the coming months. “We have found that Durban in particular was more affected by last year’s downturn than Johannesburg – and the recovery period has also naturally been slower. This could possibly be due to an overall smaller economy than Gauteng.” Expansion of the port is eagerly anticipated by all stakeholders, he added, with hopes that peak season congestion will be eased dramatically. “Despite the slow recovery we are hoping to see sales intensified in the coming months, getting business back to where it should be.”
