Durban shippers benefit from new express option

JOY ORLEK FOR AIRLINK Cargo, the Durban market is a small but important one, says MD Alwyn Rautenbach. The airline’s current focus has been on regional development – with the opening of new routes to Pemba, Mozambique; Lusaka, Zambia; Harare, Zimbabwe; and Nosy Be in Madagascar. But having negotiated special pro rates with other carriers to add to its own flight schedules, it is using the hubbing concept to develop a comprehensive service network. And Durban fits in well with these plans. Through agreements with other airlines, the company can offer an express service from any point to any point – and that could be from Margate to Cape Town or any permutation necessary. “We could look at a service from Durban to Pemba, or Durban to Europe, and based on our pro rate agreements, the shipper would be assured of a seamless service all the way. “It’s all about maximising capacity and network by coming up with innovative solutions,” says Rautenbach.
