KEVIN MAYHEW THROUGH DURBAN the JGC Line has continued to open up trade possibilities to markets in China, America and Russia, according to the managing director of Durban-based Viking Shipping, Naresh Maharaj. Viking Shipping, the African shareholder of Singapore-based JGC Line, has spent the past two years establishing the necessary operational arrangements with representatives in sub-Saharan Africa to provide an extensive service into the sub-continent. “We are servicing markets that are highly competitive and resilient. This has meant expanding our necessary agency arrangements to meet the needs of aggressive export drives from the Far East and America as well as facilitate varied exports from South Africa through Durban and Cape Town where we also have a presence,” Maharaj told FTW. Viking Shipping is part of Saimex Agencies which specialises in customs clearing and forwarding, groupage services and ships agency support services. JGC Line is an established network of members and agents that all subscribe to common service levels and offers a number of services that streamline the handling of freight. He says the attitude of JGC Line – it does not require members and agents to operate through it exclusively into its key area of operation – makes it an attractive partner to expand contacts and provide more competitive freight pricing.
