JUST OVER a year since its launch, GAC Logistics has exceeded its targeted figures for the year. That’s the word from general manager logistics division Vivian Wright who reports positive response to the company’s recent Middle East initiative. GAC, which started operating in Kuwait in the mid 50s, has the expertise and the network to make the difference, says Wright, who reports particular success in Dubai and Kuwait. Exports moving into the region generally comprise heavy machinery for the oilfields while computer equipment heads the list of import cargo. And here astute customers can make significant savings by taking advantage of the region’s freezone. “For imports moving from the Far East into the freezone, shippers save on import duty and score the additional benefit of cheaper freight rates from Dubai to South Africa,” says Wright. “They also benefit from the volume discounts that GAC is able to offer.” GAC has established a national network in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town.
