Dti reaches out to address youth unemployment

The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Thandi Tobias-Pokolo, will spread the word about the dti’s youth empowerment outreach programme when she addresses the youth of Nyanga in the Western Cape on Friday. The purpose of the programme is to encourage the youth of Nyanga to establish businesses, particularly cooperatives, in an effort to create employment for themselves and other members of the community. They will also be informed about how they can access financial and non-financial assistance from the dti and its agencies. Tobias-Pokolo says the youth empowerment outreach programme has been created to inform and educate young people on the partnerships, programmes and support offered by the dti’s youth directorate to stimulate youth economic empowerment through youth enterprise creation. “With this programme we want to ensure that awareness is raised among young entrepreneurs about services available for starting, growing and sustaining their businesses. We also want to assist them to form businesses at community level, in various sectors, and to encourage entrepreneurship that promotes rural development, employment creation and poverty eradication,” she said.
