Dti budgets billions to boost local production

R2 billion has been allocated over the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) period to boost manufacturing development incentives and support industries, such as Business Process Outsourcing.

So said the chief director of Industrial Procurement at the Department of Trade and Industry, (dti) Dr Tebogo Makube, speaking at the two-day Industrial Efficiency Conference in Durban last week.

“The Manufacturing Competitiveness Enhancement Programme (MCEP) has also budgeted an additional R5.4 billion to assist companies to upgrade production facilities,” he said.

He urged companies to make use of incentives from the dti and other government development finance institutions in the country.
