Drop in container volumes at Far East port

The Port of Singapore is currently the world’s second busiest container port in terms of total shipping tonnage.

The Port of Singapore saw a 15.8% decline in container volumes in October 2015 compared to the same month last year, according to the preliminary data published by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

This translates to 2.971 million TEUs in October 2014 and 2.497 million TEUs in October 2015, reports World Maritime News.

During the first 10 months of 2015, the port handled 26 million TEUs, a 7.47% decrease compared to the 28.1 million TEUs over the same period last year.
