Reduced capacity in both air and ocean has been a big issue for logistics operators in the Far East this year.According to Jana Schebera, managing director of Tigers China, the lack of capacity introduced numerous challenges for the logistics sector during the course of 2020 as the world battled the global pandemic.“While the cancellation of passenger f lights tightened supply for airfreight, ocean freight space was also surprisingly tight in the second half of the year. Rates have reached unprecedented levels,” she told Freight News. “This is clearly inf luenced by the number of carriers in recent years that have been blanking sailings despite strong export demand out of Asia.“On the contract logistics and domestic logistics side, new facilities are constantly being developed and a general maturity of the sector, especially in China, can be observed, which can react very fast to the different challenges the industry is facing.”She said concerns of a big wave of bankruptcies due to the outbreak of Covid-19 and the impact of the pandemic on companies, had as yet not materialised.“We remain cautious on the 2021 outlook,” said Schebera.
