FTW recalls a bygone era THIS WEEK sees the launch of a new FTW feature designed to recreate a forgotten era of shipping by delving into the archives that FTW founder John H Marsh so lovingly and passionately researched. His historic collection of some 17 000 photographs and information files that record the dramatic history of many famous ships sunk during World War II is now housed in the Iziko SA Maritime Museum in Cape Town, . In the first article of the series Peter du Toit, who looks after the John H Marsh Maritime Research Centre at the museum, takes a look at the active and varied seagoing career of Blue Funnel Line’s Nestor which served in both World Wars and was involved in the evacuation of large numbers of British children to Sydney during World War II.
