South African business should not rely on the next leader of the African National Congress to pull the country out of the doldrums but rather commit as a collective to bringing about change in their own way. This was the message from Dean Macpherson, Democratic Alliance shadow minister for trade and industry, to the Western Cape members of the South African Association of Freight Forwarders recently. Macpherson said South Africa was desperate for a new beginning and many believed that Cyril Ramaphosa as ANC president would boost the economy. “The bad news is that it is not going to happen. We need a complete new start for this country,” he said. He called on business to work together as a collective to bring about change. “We all have a commitment regardless of what sector we are in to be a part of a new beginning, but it requires our voices to speak up and to do.”
