Capetonians have been warned not to be fooled by rising dam levels in the Western Cape and to continue to consume water sparingly.
In a statement the City of Cape Town said it was still in the midst of the worst drought experienced in recent times.
“We are still not out of the current drought period and water restrictions remain in place even though dam levels are increasing slowly,” said mayoral committee member Xanthea Limberg.
Dam levels that dropped below 10% in 2018 have recovered significantly with the latest reading revealing a 59.8% storage capacity at present.
“Although the metro dam levels are slowly increasing, we are still in a period of recovery. This precious resource has to see us through the next summer until the following winter and hopefully some better rainfall,’ said Limberg.
She confirmed that restrictions would remain in place for the foreseeable future.
Personal water usage in the city remains capped at 105 litres per day per person.
