Doing their bit to protect the forest elephants

Transitex South Africa and Air Menzies International (AMI) are getting boots on the ground in the Central African Republic – literally.

The two companies recently moved a consignment of boots and socks for rangers protecting the endangered forest elephants free of charge.

“When this shipment landed on our desk it really touched our hearts and our team immediately wanted to get involved with the project,” said Andrés Bravo, Transitex branch manager.

The company had been asked by the African Forest Elephant Foundation (AFEF), an NGO working for the survival of the forest elephants, to assist in the logistics of moving boots and socks to the Dzangha Sangha Special Reserve in the Central African Republic.

“They have started a project called ‘Boots on the Ground’ which raises funds to supply the correct uniforms for the forest rangers that protect these endangered animals,” said Angelique de Freitas, Transitex South Africa operations coordinator.

“Our team immediately felt this was a cause that we wanted to assist with.”

According to Bravo, AMI eagerly came on board when they heard of the work being done to save and protect the rainforest and the elephants that call it home.

Splitting the costs, the two companies made sure that 103 pairs of boots and 505 pairs of socks were moved by air to the rangers in Bangui as quickly as possible.

De Freitas said: “Transitex and AMI are both international entities and have the ability to bring ‘The World Closer’. Extending our skills to help organisations like these that are really making a difference should be encouraged and supported across our industry.”
