KEVIN MAYHEW THE FUTURE of charters out of South Africa lies mainly in servicing the needs of capital projects and supplies for other African countries, according to regional director for Safcor Panalpina, Maria du Preez. The company has an agreement with an air cargo operator which operates between Luxembourg and South Africa – although it has no obligations to provide return flights from South Africa. “Certain destinations in Africa are more problematic than others but these can be overcome if one has a strength of presence on the ground which we have through the Safcor Panalpina network,” she explained. Du Preez believes that the appointment of key personnel to manage this network is also vital and is the responsibility of general manager, exports, Wally Hoddinott.
