RAY SMUTS CLEAR DIFFERENCES of opinion over the way forward for Southern African Fruit Terminals have led to the departure of managing director Patrick McLoughlin. This follows the January 1 appointment of former SAFT director of operations Steven Janssen as Fresh Produce Terminals’ new general manager in Cape Town. McLoughlin and Janssen worked closely together for a number of years. A memorandum from SAFT’s Plattekloof offices signed by overseas European directors Johan Claes, Herman De Knijf and SAFT’s new MD, Ockert Henning, states that McLoughlin and the board of directors of SAFT decided to go “different routes because of different strategic views on the way forward for the SAFT Group. “By consequence, Patrick resigns from all his functions and Ockert Henning, current financial director, will take over all responsibilities and has been appointed MD.”
