Deutche Post bids for Exel

THERE HAS been a bid made by Europe’s largest postal group Deutsche Post for the UK logistics major Exel. This was confirmed to FTW by Exel’s Africa MD, Rob Ballentyne, who said: “An approach has been made and they are in discussions.” An article in the UK’s Financial Times estimates that the deal could be worth more than GBP3.4-billion (R39.75-bn) if it goes through. This proposed purchase in the logistics sector would follow Deutsche Post’s recent acquisition of the express package operators, FedEx.
