Demand grows in West Africa

Growing demand for direct port calls at Port Gentil, Boma and Sao Tome has seen Safmarine MPV adding these ports as inducement calls to its regular West Africa service. The Safmarine Longa, which docked at FPT Cape Town on her first southbound voyage for 2014 from West Africa recently, included a direct port call at Port Gentil and is scheduling a direct call at Boma – all within the scheduled 45-day voyage turnaround. “Grouping together enquiries from multiple sources has enabled us to justify ongoing inducement calls at these ports,” said Pamela Yerushalmy, line manager – SAFWAF. “And continuing in this manner, we hope to provide a service to shippers with smaller consignments that previously lacked the critical mass required to call at these ports – while maintaining our schedule integrity at all times,” she said.
