Large containerships loading empty boxes have put additional pressure on comings and goings at Cape Town Terminal, compounded at week’s end by a howling South-easterly wind which delayed operations for 11 hours, so preventing MOL Caledon from entering port. Come dawn on Monday and the containership was still at No: 1 anchorage. While her delay works out to something like 147 hours, MOL’s Iain McIntosh points out the vessel arrived early to load a shipment of fruit for Europe and her actual delay by the time she sails will probably be of the order of 72 hours.
