Decision on nuclear sites expected within two years

The National Nuclear Regulator is expected to finalise a decision by 2018 on power utility Eskom's two new site licence applications, according to news reports quoting “a senior official”.

The power utility submitted its application in March this year to build two new nuclear power stations – Thyspunt in the Eastern Cape and Duynefontein in the Western Cape –  as part of an expansion plan that will generate an additional 9 600 megawatts.
