THE GLOBAL NVOCC, Direct Container Line (DCL), has established a new department dedicated to enforcing compliance with regulations for hazardous material shipments.
According to Corinne French, director of local agents, United Maritime Logistics, these are the demands laid down by the US department of transportation (DoT) and the international maritime dangerous goods (IMDG) code.
“Both the company and its customers rely on how successful it is with getting correct information and ensuring all shipments are marked and labelled as they should be,” she said.
“One hazardous shipment in a container affects everyone - which means that if someone in the chain gets the information wrong, the ripple effect can impact all the others in the chain.”
