Danny Reddy heads up RB combi terminal

PORTNET HAS appointed Danny Reddy as the new manager of the combi terminal.
He fills the position previously held by Nad Govender who was recently promoted to Port Elizabeth as port operations manager. Reddy was previously with LTA and for the past two years Protekon at Richards Bay, working on general cargo development.
Timber has become a major export item at the port and the Safcol site has been consolidated and relocated to the east end of the combi terminal area, where a new 5 hectare concrete slab
is in the process of being thrown. The two
areas previously occupied by Safcol frequently became a quagmire after rainfall, making it extremely difficult to work with the heavy timber logs in the mud. The new slab and site will be completed by the end of April.
As a result of this consolidation ferro chromes will now be stored closer to berth 708. This is in order to facilitate more efficient block load handling, as the product requires careful handling and as little additional movement as possible. The ferro consolidation will be complete by the end of July.
The Richards Bay combi terminal may be unique in the world with regard to the variety of bulk products that it handles. During 1998 a total volume of 3,2 million tons was handled at this terminal.
