A NEW company that specialises in the processing of customs refunds has opened its doors in Durban. Headed up by Clive Meyer, a veteran of the freight forwarding industry, Ace Refund Specialists undertakes no regular clearing work, concentrating solely on refunds. “For many agents who have become full logistics service providers in recent years, the processing of refunds, substitution entries and drawbacks has become far divorced from their normal day to day activities,” says Meyer. “The regulations are more complex than in the past and are more strictly enforced than ever before.” This is the outsource niche that Ace Refund Specialists will fill. Meyer is based in Durban but has registered with Customs at most of the major ports where staff is available to offer the specialist service. “Similar arrangements can be made at ports where the business is not currently registered if warranted by customer demand,” he said.
