Customs and duty changes updated at the touch of a button

With ongoing tariff fluctuations
and changes to global
trade agreements and legislation,
it is important for clearing and
forwarding agents to work with
customs clearing partners who are
not only well-versed in Customs laws
and operations but provide up-to-the
minute updates on these changes,
according to Haren Padia, director
of Advanced Customs Solutions
(ACS).
“My over 46 years’ experience
in the industry means I can
assist customers with advice and
knowledge that extends beyond
software solutions,” he said, pointing
out that ACS software solutions
had tools built in that immediately
reflected all the regulatory and
operational changes in the industry.
Padia pointed out that the ACS
import clearing system enabled
an electronic Customs Tariff Book
which was regularly updated to
reflect the latest Customs duties and
taxes.
“It includes all related trade
agreements, schedules and ancillary
documentation requirements
pertaining to each tariff,” he
explained. In addition, currency and
metric conversions are provided to
help agents with quick calculations,
and an electronic customs code
search facility is automatically part
of the package, as is a commodity
price listing and various types of
land transport costs.
Padia further explained that the
import clearing model had a costof-
repair calculation system as well
provisional payment and RIB/RIT
acquittal systems respectively.
The solution also enables agents
to give ongoing feedback to their
customers through shipment
monitoring and tracking.
“Furthermore, our solutions are
customisable to the individual needs
of our clients and we offer web-based
and cloud-based software options
to ensure our solutions fit in with
our customers’ IT infrastructure,
not the other way around,” Padia
commented.
He added that aside from the
systems, ACS had cultivated strong
relationships with South African
Revenue Service (Sars) Customs
officials. “Our clients are aware that
we can step in and help them when
a shipment is rejected for whatever
reason.”
