CHC Container Depot in
Cape Town recently launched
its new Montague Gardens
facility by opening its doors
to customers, suppliers
and service providers and
giving them a glimpse of its
operations.
According to Jerome
Wolhuter, operations manager
of CHC Container Depot in
Cape Town, the company has
established itself as a major
player in the industry in
the three years since it first
opened its doors.
Initially based in
Paardeneiland, the company
had to create more capacity,
resulting in the move to
Montague Gardens at the end
of last year.
“Until now we have not had
the opportunity to showcase
our new premises, something
that is very important for
us to share as it allows
our customers and service
providers to gain more insight
into our business,” said
Wolhuter. “A lot of thought
went into deciding where to
base our operations. Aspects
such as congestion, traffic
volumes, the distance to
the port, turnaround times
as well as the location of
customers were taken into
account before choosing
the warehouse in Montague
Gardens.”
He said at the same time
much consideration was given
to the system implemented
in the warehouse as it allows
for a free flow of movement in
which there is no queuing and
very few hold-ups. “It is all
about turning trucks around
as quickly as possible and it
was this that we wanted our
customers to see.”
