Transnet’s Cape Town container terminal officially opened its new R12-million truck entrance and staging area on September 1, the latest milestone in its R5.4 billion, five-year expansion programme. The new entrance will see truck congestion significantly eased from Duncan Road, located within the port of Cape Town. Compared to the previous two lanes, the new truck entrance comprises four lanes, and a fifth lane for abnormal cargo, leading into a truck and container verification point for the terminal. Furthermore, trucks are now serviced from kiosks located adjacent to each lane, resulting in quicker and safer service as truck drivers are not required to alight from their vehicles.
