The Cape Town Container Terminal is seeing a steady growth in volumes as operational efficiency improves, according to terminal manager Brenda Mgqwaka. Mgqwaka said they were achieving 33.5 crane moves per hour at present. “We average around 32 crane moves per hour but we have done 37-40. The weather, however, does affect our ability to maintain that level and it becomes especially difficult during the windy season.” She said without wind CTCT would be able to set new performance standards for the country as it was the one major inhibiting factor at the terminal which last year was named one of the world’s top 120 container ports by the 2013 Container Management Report.
