'CT open for business'

Cape Town businesses have been advised to do dry runs ahead of taps running dry in an effort to plan better should the situation arise. Addressing a media briefing recently, Alan Winde, minister of economic opportunities, said preparing for the worst was essential for every business if they wanted to remain sustainable and survive the water crisis. “Turn off the taps and see what the impact is on your operations. This will allow you to prepare and set up a business continuity plan.” Whilst the City of Cape Town has confirmed that water to the central business district will not be turned off it remaines unclear which areas will be waterless and for how long, should the taps be turned off. According to Peter Flower, director of water and sanitation for the City of Cape Town, more dry years are being predicted for the Western Cape than rainy, meaning businesses are going to remain under restricted water use for some time.
