The issue of funding of road works to address congestion near and around one of the big container depots in Cape Town remains unresolved. It is estimated it will cost the City of Cape Town and the Western Cape province more than R5 million to add a turning lane on the Koeberg intersection on the M5 in Maitland where truck congestion into the nearby container depot is a major concern. City officials have called on industry to help fund the road works, as its current budget does not stretch that far. Industry has in turn said it will look into the feasibility of contributing towards the cost of the road works, but to date no companies have made any firm commitments. According to a spokesman for the Port Liaison Forum (PLF) it is liaising with various other organisations and role-players as it is critical a solution be found to the congestion experienced around the container depot.
