For the past four years, Janine Hampton, human resources (HR) manager for a. hartrodt, has played a major role as head of the education and training portfolio for the SA Association of Freight Forwarders (Saaff) in Gauteng. A beacon of her success is that the International Federation of Freight Forwarding Associations (Fiata) recently granted Saaff’s training material a revalidation certificate. According to Hampton, the Saaff education and training team – tasked with the preparation of course material and supporting evidence of quality assurance measures – was able to combine its efforts with industry experts, participating training providers, and the Transport Education and Training Authority (Teta). “This combined effort contributed towards a winning presentation,” she said, “and SA learners now have the opportunity to obtain a prestigious, internationallyrecognised qualification.” From her 24 years of experience in the freight industry, Hampton has become a firm believer in the philosophy that individual success rests on comprehensive training, as well as hands-on application. In addition to being one of the first South Africans to have been awarded the Fiata diploma, and a qualified assessor and moderator, she holds a number of other qualifications in fields such as quality management, human resource management and industrial relations.
