The Durban transport and logistics operation, Jtr Freight, has rapidly expanded its list of services – moving in four years from a transport broking speciality to an extended product offering, according to MD Thaven Naidoo. “We recognised a number of other niche markets amongst our client base which needed satisfying,” he said. “We have engaged in warehousing, which has now become a specialised part of the range of products we offer,” said Naidoo. “Our warehouse is situated on the South Coast road in Durban, conveniently close to the harbour’s container terminals and the freeway network in and out of the city. We handle any sort of cargo in the premises, and – with both day and night shifts – we offer this facility on a 24/7 basis.” This has seen the company establish what he describes as “a cross-docking process”. In this, Jtr Freight moves the incoming containers into its warehouse in Durban, unpacks and sorts the contents, and transports the individual shipments as breakbulk cargo to Johannesburg or any other nominated destination in southern Africa. “It allows for fast delivery of goods, and offers clients a cost saving,” Naidoo told FTW. “For example, they don’t need to pay an empty turn-in fee in Johannesburg.” Another new area of speciality for Jtr is in reefer (refrigerated) cargo. “For this,” said Naidoo, “the trailers we use have generators attached, which power-up the refrigerator units on the containers carrying perishable products. “For general cargo we transport containerised, and normal and abnormal breakbulk cargoes, both within the Republic and across border to neighbouring states of Zimbabwe, Botswana, Lesotho, Zambia and Mozambique.” Project cargo is another speciality for the company which has achieved level 3 BEE compliance
